Village Building Convergence

Welcome to the ticketing page for the 2010 Village Building Convergence, May 28-June 6, in Portland, OR.

There are three types of purchases you can make on this page:

  • tickets for the evening meal, speaker and entertainment at our central venue each night. AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR. DOOR OPENS AT 5 PM each night.
  • participation in our new offering, the Village Building Design Course.
  • housing in a homestay situation (only available to people attending one of the other options) CLOSED

There is no charge for full access to the VBC placemaking sites during their scheduled work times, and their free workshops. There will be a calendar published online as the VBC sites plan their workshops and work parties. This tends to be in flux, to some degree, even up through June 6, so check back for updates. The web calendar, and a sign board at the venue, will have the latest schedule for these opportunities to come learn, while helping to create. The projects at our VBC sites are the heart of our work, the reasons that we organize the convergence.

WHAT IS THE VBC?

We hope our entire web site answers this question, but here it is in brief:

The Village Building Convergence is a statement of our combined dedication to create the world in which we want to be living. VBC is a cyclical, seasonal, celebration, a reclaimed holiday of community action. At its root, VBC is about actively building our community, and realizing the strength and beauty of our power when we work and play together. By building a physical and social village infrastructure we are realizing our common visions for a lively and sustainable urban community.

The Village Building Convergence 2010 (VBC 2010) is a 10-day event from Friday, May 28th to Sunday, June 6th, 2010 in which neighborhoods activate to build shared public places that they have envisioned, designed, funded, and will maintain for themselves. VBC will include hands-on education in permaculture design and construction, ecological building, and public art. All projects are built through collaboration, community conversations and commitment of a neighborhood to strengthen itself. Everyone is invited to attend evening events at a central location, to participate in a shared dinner, workshops and listen to visionaries speak about various aspects of sustainable culture (there is a charge at the door).

VBC will feature projects located in or adjacent to the public right of way and private projects that support community in various neighborhoods. Private site projects will be structures or systems that are built by and available to the communities concerned with that site, and hopefully available to some extent to the larger community. These will include public squares and outdoor classrooms, community kiosks and benches, e-communication innovations, and many other new ideas.
